Physical Therapy
To Our Patients:
If we could bottle the effects of aerobic fitness, it would be the most commonly prescribed medicine in the world. The only problem is that it takes about 30 minutes to swallow the pill.
At some point in life, almost all of us have an injury and almost all of us are in poor aerobic shape. It is not too surprising that injuries and being out of shape occur together. The research and experience for the last 15 years is clear; recovering from most injuries requires getting in better shape than when the injury happened.
Our focus will be to assist you in your recovery by helping you become stronger and in better shape than you are now. We will be measuring your range of motion, strength, endurance, target heart rate, muscle mass, and your perceived trust in your injured muscles.
For acute and painful injuries, we will provide “passive” treatment to reduce swelling and improve your activity with the injured body part. Since most people gain weight after being injured, a dietician may help you get on track with the right foods and caloric intake.
Each session is individually supervised by a medical assistant, each of whom are themselves overseen by one of three doctors; a pain specialist, a general orthopedic surgeon, and an orthopedic spine surgeon. These doctors will review your program and progress notes, making changes when necessary to help you recover.
We encourage questions. We want you to learn about your injury and how gaining fitness will aid you in a faster recovery. Please ask questions and voice your concerns.
