Dr. Mark Awad, M.D. specializes in the treatment of multiple chronic pain conditions, including chronic low back pain, neck pain, and facial pain as well as neuropathic (nerve) pain and arthritis pain. Dr. Awad has trained in multiple interventional pain techniques including minimally invasive, fluoroscopically (x-ray) and ultrasound guided injections, radiofrequency ablations, spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal pumps, sympathetic blocks, kyphoplasty, joint injections, head and neck blocks, epidural injections, and peripheral nerve blocks. Dr. Awad understands that chronic pain is a complex disease process that can affect many aspects of a person’s life and is also interested in non-pharmalogical avenues of treatments, including meditation, yoga, home exercise, etc...

Originally from Los Angeles, Dr. Awad graduated from the prestigious University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, where he enjoyed attending football games and was involved in multiple volunteer and community outreach programs. Dr. Awad completed medical school at the nationally-ranked Indiana University School of Medicine. While there, he engaged in multiple research projects, including research into diabetes and cellular glucose signaling. He went on to complete his residency training in Anesthesiology at Loma Linda University. He then spent a year working as a general teaching anesthesiologist at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, CA. He spent an additional year of subspecialty training at the University of Texas in San Antonio in a multidisciplinary pain fellowship program, working with known figures of the field such as Dr. Maxim Eckmann and Dr. Ameet Nagpal.

Dr. Awad is a member of multiple professional societies including the International Association for the Study of Pain, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the California Society of Anesthesiologists, and the American Academy of Pain Physicians.

In his free time, Dr. Awad enjoys exercising, snowboarding, playing basketball, reading and writing, and hiking. He recently achieved a personal goal and summited Mount Kilimanjaro.
